On Revolutions

A photo of celebrations in Egypt after Hosni Mubarak announced he was stepping down. As protests demanding regime change now move to Yemen, I know I’m not the only one who is wondering: when will this finally happen south of the Sahara? Zimbabwe, Uganda, Ethiopia …

Yep, when will it happen to Uganda? Unlike Egypt where the population is of a monogamous makeup i.e. Arabs, in Uganda we have over 50 tribes. The current hapless regime has a whole region behind it, the Western region, and large swathes of other regions supporting it. And, the economic conditions here are not as dire as they were in Egypt.80 percent of the population lives in rural areas, unlike in Egypt where urban areas were swarming with unemployed and frustrated youths. Museveni and the NRM have a few years to mess up before the people in my country wake up, unfortunately.
