All Clear on the Western Front

What a long, strange weekend it’s been. But in a good way. Most restaurants, bars and clubs were shut, meaning that for entertainment we had our own house fiesta, complete with convenience store-bought beer and chips. Music was occasionally provided by two guys across the street singing karaoke.

We wandered the quiet, eerie streets, appreciating both the stillness but missing the chaotic crowds of the city. “I always wondered what the city would be like with no people,” a friend said. But we weren’t sure we liked it.

Luckily, things are looking up for the city, as the swine flu virus appears to be less deadly than previously thought and we come out of our five-day shutdown.

To celebrate, we held a picnic in Parque Mexico on Sunday, pictured above. We ended up talking, eating and drinking on that grass for hours.
