Let me first get this out of the way. I am one of the unabashed Condechi, the residents of the pretty, leafy neighborhood pictured above: La Condesa.
As I prepare to now move — from one house in Condesa to another — I realize that I treasure this place so much because it feels like my permanent getaway from the chaotic hustle of la ciudad. Hustle is good, but not all the time. I should know, half of my family is from Lagos.
So, as my friends call me “fresa” (snobby) and complain of Condesa’s over-Europeanized trappings, I simply look out at the Art Deco buildings and sidewalk cafes in the picturesque view from my window and smile.
